Monako Glass Moves to Qualcomm AR1, Targets First Shipments in Q1 2027
Monako is upgrading Monako Glass to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 platform. The first batch is now targeted to ship in Q1 2027, while the $399 price remains locked for all 2,500 early backers.
Since launching in June, Monako Glass has received support from 2,500 early backers. The first 1,000 reserved their glasses within 72 hours, placing a $19 deposit before a single unit had shipped.
That early support opened the door to an opportunity with Sunny Optical: access to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 platform and a path toward a more capable device.
A New Platform for Monako Glass
Moving from the original Rockchip-based design to Snapdragon AR1 marks a major change in the product’s development. It brings Monako closer to its vision of a compact Linux spatial computer in the form of everyday glasses.
The team faced a choice: continue with the original design and delivery plan, or undertake the additional engineering work required for the new platform. Monako chose to move forward with AR1.

Updated Shipping Target and Backer Commitments
Because the upgrade requires substantial product redesign and engineering work, the first batch is now targeted to ship in Q1 2027, replacing the original summer 2026 target. This remains a target, rather than a confirmed shipping date.
For the 2,500 early backers:

Sharing the Development Process
Monako will publish regular updates throughout the engineering development process with Sunny Optical, including the non-recurring engineering (NRE) work needed to bring the new design toward production.
These updates will give backers a clearer view of progress, challenges, and any changes to the shipping target.
